A long, long time ago when I, John Chapman was a child I fell in love with Sebago Lake region while camping around the lake with my parents and brothers. The summers at Sebago Lake became a tradition and that tradition continued with my own childern (Denise, Andrea and Stacey) and they too looked forward to the summer trip to Maine. Renting a cabin on Frye Island became the annual fare and everyone liked seeing those familiar faces from year to year (close to 25 years). Years ago while watching a rerun of the Brady Bunch with my then girlfriend Delores, mother of two girls (Heather and Jennifer), I felt the need to rent more than one cabin. Being ever so smart, I married Delores and the second cabin was filled with laughter, fun and more daughters. Did you know that with daughters you eventually get son-in-laws? So, Denise went and got George, Andrea went and got Shane, Stacey went and got Mike, Heather went and got Tim and Jenny, well Jenny has Scruffy (her dog). And oh yes, the next thing you have after the 'gotting' is the 'begetting' and Papa John and Nana Dee (short for Delores) soon had eight (I wish they would slow down) grandchildren (Andrew, Raymond, T.J., Forrest, Zachary, Mackenzie, Callie and Boden). As you can tell by now, if I don't get everyone's name into the story my name will be mudd; so let's keep going. Aunt Cathy (ex-wife's sister) and her other half Uncle Jeff, along with their ever so handsome offspring Ryan, always make it to the party. She thinks we invite her because we like her but she can cook and clean like nobody. Did I mention my ex-wife? Believe it or not, the ex, Elaine (a.k.a. Martha Stewart), and her husband Gary are now Sebago Lake-o-phytes. Are you starting to get the picture? Take a breath..... Okay, let's go. Joy, my niece from Buffalo was looking to vacation at a lake cleaner than Lake Erie; and wouldn't you guess it; one trip to Frye Island and she's an annual attendee with kids Hannah and Shawn. Throw in my sister Pat, and many times I've wanted to!, and you have almost everyone covered. Except for Angela and Rohn. Don't ask who they are. I think they are friends of one of the daughters and they show up every year with their two little ones, Lily and Tyler. Even though they aren't related we have given them family status. You do the numbers and you will quickly see that we were stretching things even when we were renting three cabins. An opportunity came our way in 2003 when Emerald Point was subdivided into large lakefront lots. People thought we were crazy, but we bought a lot and built the ultimate large family cabin. Welcome to our home! Please check it out!
